NeighborWorks® America and Its Network Ranked Among Top 100 U.S. Homebuilders for Second Consecutive Year

Washington, D.C. (May 21, 2026) – NeighborWorks® America, a national, congressionally chartered, nonprofit corporation, has once again been recognized on the 2026 Builder 100 list published by Builder Magazine, underscoring the growing role the NeighborWorks network plays in expanding the nation’s housing supply and creating pathways to affordable homeownership.

NeighborWorks network organizations built and sold 875 homes in 2025, earning the network a place among the top homebuilders in the United States for the second consecutive year. NeighborWorks’ homebuilding production earned a ranking of #72, up six from last year.

At a time when communities across the country continue to face rising housing costs, limited inventory and affordability challenges, NeighborWorks network organizations are helping families not only find homes, but build long-term financial stability and generational wealth.

“NeighborWorks America’s network doesn’t just believe in the American Dream, we’re building it every day in communities across the country,” said NeighborWorks America President & CEO Marietta Rodriguez. “Housing affordability remains one of the defining challenges facing our nation. This recognition reflects the determination of NeighborWorks organizations to increase housing supply, expand homeownership opportunities and ensure more people have access to safe, stable and affordable homes.”

NeighborWorks America and its network have worked to create and preserve affordable housing opportunities in urban, suburban, rural and Tribal communities nationwide. The approach of the nearly 250 nonprofits that make up the NeighborWorks network extends beyond construction. NeighborWorks network organizations provide housing and financial capability counseling, down payment assistance, foreclosure mitigation support and home rehabilitation services that help families sustain homeownership over time. Over the past five years, at least 90% of NeighborWorks’ nearly 91,000 homebuyers have been first-time homebuyers.

“Homeownership remains one of the most powerful tools for building stability and wealth,” Rodriguez said. “What makes the NeighborWorks network unique is that organizations are not only building homes, they are helping families prepare for ownership, navigate financial challenges and remain successful homeowners for years to come.”

In fiscal year 2025 alone, NeighborWorks and the network:

  • Created 17,600 homeowners.
  • Helped 102,900 families and individuals through housing counseling and financial capability services.
  • Preserved homeownership for 11,400 families and individuals.
  • Repaired 66,900 homes.
  • Owned and/or managed 216,800 rental homes.
  • Created and/or supported 48,700 jobs.

“NeighborWorks organizations across the country, from Arizona to Michigan and Florida to New Mexico, are increasing the supply of housing through homebuilding in their local communities,” said Michael Butchko, vice president of Business Intelligence at NeighborWorks America. “In 2025, this work generated $270 million in investment, helping strengthen local economies while creating housing opportunities families can afford.”

The impact reaches beyond housing production. For every dollar of federal appropriation received in fiscal year 2025, NeighborWorks and its network attracted an additional $74 in public and private direct investment into communities nationwide.

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, NeighborWorks America continues to focus on housing as a foundation for economic mobility, neighborhood stability and community resilience.

“Owning property gives you a different voice, a different kind of power and a stake in where you live,” Rodriguez said. “And it gives you a chance to build wealth that you can then pass on to the next generation.

“NeighborWorks America is honored by this recognition,” Rodriguez added. “We remain committed to the work Congress chartered us to do nearly five decades ago: improving lives, strengthening communities and supporting local organizations that understand the unique needs of the people they serve.”
