NeighborWorks America Awards Second Tranche of FY 2025 Flexible Impact Grants: More Than $13.9 Million of Investment to Nonprofits Driving Proven, Market-Based Solutions to the Nation’s Housing Supply and Affordability Crisis
Washington, D.C. – NeighborWorks America, a congressionally chartered, nonprofit corporation that for more than 45 years has advanced affordable mortgage financing and construction of workforce accessible homes across the country, announced today $13.9 million in grants to its nationwide network of nonprofit small businesses focused on solving the housing affordability and supply crises. The grants are the second disbursement of Fiscal Year 2025 funds while the organization awaits its full year funding.
“It is urgent that we invest these congressionally appropriated funds to address the housing supply shortage,” said NeighborWorks America President & CEO Marietta Rodriguez. “The housing affordability and supply crises dominate national and local news. These investments in NeighborWorks homebuilders, housing counselors and lenders make a difference in the lives of families all across the country.
“Throughout our history working with every Administration and Congress, NeighborWorks America has fostered new methods and ideas from within our national network to expand housing supply in both the apartment and single-family sectors and attracting fresh private capital to help ensure that everyone has a safe and affordable place to call home,” Rodriguez added.
For every dollar of federal appropriation in fiscal year 2024, NeighborWorks and its network attracted an additional $71 of additional public and private sector direct investment in communities, and:
- Helped 105,000 families and individuals by providing counseling on financial capability, pre-purchase, post-purchase or foreclosure issues.
- Created 16,300 new homeowners.
- Owned and/or managed 211,900 rental homes.
- Created and/or maintained 48,900 jobs.
"This investment, efficiently and safely delivered across nearly 250 nonprofit organizations, underscores our fervent commitment to making communities stronger," emphasized Rodriguez.
In addition to funding, NeighborWorks supports its network's ability to develop and maintain the supply of affordable housing through virtual and in-person professional development opportunities including the NeighborWorks Training Institute and organizational assessments. These initiatives enhance and enrich our network organizations and affirm our pledge to strengthen the sector's capacity to increase residential development and nurture enduring change in communities nationwide.
