Washington, D.C. – NeighborWorks America awarded $500,000 in grants today to six NeighborWorks network organizations in communities directly impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The nonprofits will use the grants to provide immediate day-to-day critical needs such as clean water, food and safe, stable homes to affected families and individuals. The grants also will support evaluation of structural damage to homes, including determination of immediate and long-term repair and replacement needs.

“NeighborWorks America provides flexible vital financial assistance that helps organizations deliver critical supplies and services to people, so individuals and families can focus beyond today and basic needs, and look to the future,” said NeighborWorks America Senior Vice President of Field Operations Katie Watts. “It’s a long road to rebuilding and recovery. NeighborWorks America and our organizations are here to help meet the unique needs of all communities affected by this disaster. Everyone deserves that support. “

The following NeighborWorks organizations are receiving grants:

  • Mountain Housing Opportunities (MHO) (Asheville, North Carolina) - $175,000;
  • Eastern Eight Community Development Corporation (Johnson City, Tennessee) - $100,000;

  • Corporation to Development Communities of Tampa (Tampa, Florida) - $75,000;

A recent national NeighborWorks America survey found 44% of Americans say their home was somewhat or very at risk from extreme weather, and 45% of people said they were not well prepared for extreme weather affecting their home.
